Community Relations

Helping our community is part of Horizon's mission and culture.  In 2003, we formalized our company-wide Community Service Program to encourage all employees to give back to their communities and to make it possible for them to do so.

Horizon employees volunteer their time and service for many worthy causes, including Habitat for Humanity and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  In addition, we conduct at least one annual service project for all employees to contribute to together.  For the past several years, the Horizon staff has rallied to personally contribute basic supplies and treats for our military personnel - inviting our clients and vendors to join in as well - coordinating all donations and shipping them to various overseas locations.

We strongly believe that, as members of our communities, it is our obligation - and our pleasure - to contribute in whatever way we can to the goal of making our communities better places to live, work and thrive.  In 2010, we helped our communities in many ways.  Here are just a few:

  • School Supply Drive - In Santa Ana, Horizon's staff participated in a school supply drive where items needed to promote success in the classroom were donated.
  • Volunteerism - Ethics Day, an event that Stephen Coakley volunteered at to provide high school seniors with scenarios and discuss the difficult decisions involved.  Wanda Alexander volunteered her time at a convention in Florida to discuss diversity and inclusion in the workplace.  Amongst other events, Horizon's employees donated their time to churches, the community and local organizations.
  • Material Donations - In each of Horizon's offices, clothing items were donated to help the unemployed maintain a professional work appearance.  Horizon's headquarters donated over ten boxes of clothing and kitchen items to a local women's shelter, while Wanda Alexander donated and purchased books for Senegalese children and supplied money to numerous toy drives throughout the holiday season.  Toys were also donated by Horizon employees to Toys for Tots - an initiative to make the holidays brighter for deserving children.
  • Financial Support - Horizon supported BUILD Metro DC, Susan G. Komen and the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce as a Silver Partner.  Wanda Alexander personally supported local programs to include YouthQuest Foundation; Sasha Bruce YouthWork; Loudoun Cares Loudoun Alternative Gift Fair and Blue Ridge Hospice.

We at Horizon will continue to serve others in any way we can, as a team and as individuals.  Nothing else in life compares to the satisfaction of knowing we have helped someone else in some way, however large or small - in our jobs and in our communities.
